KARACHI: Corruption in driving licence offices

KARACHI, Nov 24: Corruption and violation of laws in the issuance of driving licences is on the rise in the relevant department. A visit to the driving licence branches situated in Clifton, Nazimabad and Korangi revealed that the laws regarding age limit, mental and physical health and adequate training of the applicants are ruthlessly violated.Sources in the traffic police alleged that the agents with the connivance of the unscrupulous elements within the department were involved in providing the aspirants with both the original and fake licences violating the rules and regulations.

In order to avoid the driving test and objections of the officials conducting the test, and also to save their time, the people grease the palms of the officials or contact these agents.

The Light Traffic Vehicle (LTV) licence is issued against a payment of Rs600 while the original fee is very low. Sources said that the licences were also delivered to the applicants even at their doorsteps without undertaking tests.—PPI
