HYDERABAD: NAB to compensate affectees of housing scheme scam

HYDERABAD, Nov 24:National Accountability Bureau here on Saturday announced that to mark the international day against corruption, NAB would refund the excess amount to 700 affected people of Lal Shahbaz Housing Scheme Jamshoro, on Dec 5.
In a statement, a spokesman of the NAB said that the refund ceremony will be held at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro and expressed the hope that the acting caretaker Sindh Chief Minister, Justice (retd) Abdul Qadir Halepoto will be the chief guest.
He said, the director-general of NAB Sindh, Major-General Mukhtar Ahmed will also be present on the occasion.
The spokesman recalled that Sehwan Development Authority had launched Lal Shahbaz Housing Scheme in 1998, and M/s Maxim Builders were appointed for marketing, which recovered excess money from the allottees in the name of registration, road fees, corner and west open.
He said on the complaints of the allottees, the NAB had conducted inquiries and recovered the excess amount from the builder to refund the same to the allottees. He said so far 206 allottees out of 1,800 have already been refunded and 700 more would be paid refund on Dec 5.
ELECTION CELL: District Coordination Officer Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri has established District Election Cell at his camp-office and nominated Lal Dino Mangi, staff officer to DCO, as coordinator for the cell.
According to a notification, the telephone numbers of the cell are 022-2785609, 9200115-6 and Fax No.022-9201316.
Besides, other departments concerned have also been asked to establish election cells and to notify the same for close coordination and sharing information.
ADMISSIONS: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro has notified roll number of 1,200 students, who have been selected for admission to 16 technologies.
The students have been selected for regular and self-finance on the basis of Sindh domicile.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the university claimed that admissions have been granted purely on merit.
