Protest rallies held in Quetta

By Amanullah Kasi

QUETTA, Nov 23: Activists of parties in the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) held demonstrations in various parts of the city on Friday and vowed to continue their struggle against dictatorship and imposition of emergency.

Protests were held in Manan chowk, Junction chowk, Prince Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Science College Chowk, Mechongy Road, Sirki Road and other areas.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the Balochistan chapter of the APDM said that the struggle would continue till the resignation of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, lifting of emergency and restoration of pre-emergency judiciary, the Constitution and genuine democracy.

The APDM lauded the struggle of lawyers, journalists, political and human rights activists against the autocratic rule and condemned the crackdown on workers and members of opposition parties, bar associations and human rights organisations.

The protesters paid tribute to the judges who refused to take the oath under the Provisional Constitution Order. They criticised the curbs on media and shutting down of private TV channels.
