Nine PPP workers arrested

HYDERABAD, Nov 23: Nine PPP activists, including two women, were arrested by the Cantonment Police on Friday for violating section 144 CrPC. They had participated in a protest rally on the call of party leadership to express solidarity with the media.

Group of activists tried to stage protest demonstration outside the District Council building but due to police deployment they could not. They gathered at Haji Shah Chowk to head for the press club and were arrested upon reaching there.

Those arrested included Mohammad Amin Lakho, Iqbal Soomro, Mohammad Khan Chandio, Nasir, Gulzar Ahmed, Irshad Ali Memon, Ghulam Mustafa Memon, Ms Shamshad Memon and Ms Shabana Khan.

A case was lodged against them with the Cantonment Police.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: PPP activists held a big demonstration outside the District Council Hall, on Friday. As demonstration swelled up in size, a heavy contingent of police arrived at the scene, creating tense situation. However, police did not try to disrupt the demonstration.
