Differences crop up in JUI over party ‘tickets’

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 23: A group of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) leaders on Friday rejected the nomination of some people as candidates by the party’s district chapter for some National and provincial assembly seats and announced that they would propose their own candidates to the JUI’s provincial election board for award of party tickets.

This was decided in a meeting held at the residence of Nazim Lakki City-I Ashfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel. The meeting was presided over by JUI’s former district amir Maulana Abdul Rahim.

Maulana Abdul Wakil later told journalists that the district amir had violated the party’s constitution by proposing names of his favourite candidates to the provincial leadership, bypassing senior party leaders.

He said senior party leaders had decided that former MNA Maulana Amanullah Khan would contest for NA-27, while Maulana Haji Amir Nawaz Khan, Maulana Muhammad Mohsin Shah and Maulana Abdul Rahim would be covering candidates. Mr Wakil also disclosed the names of people proposed as candidates for provincial assembly seats.—Correspondent
