NAWABSHAH, Nov 22: The Gajrah Canal developed a 90-foot wide breach early on Thursday inundating four villages and standing crop of wheat, vegetables including radish, brinjal, cauliflower and carrots on 200 acres.

The breach flooded the villages of Betto Khaskheli, Sodho Khaskheli, Khadim Hussain Khaskheli and Khiyaroun road. The officials of Irrigation Department and district administration reached the affected areas after the villagers informed them and started rescue work.

Hakim Ali Khaskheli and Manzoor Hussain Khaskheli, growers of the area, held irrigation officials responsible for the breach and said that they had been complaining to the executive engineer about the overflow in the canal and asked the department to reduce the gauge but nobody listened to their requests.

The executive engineer of Nusrat Division Rasheed Khoso told journalists that the cattle passing the canal and bathing led to the breach. Water supply had been stopped at the head of Gajrah Canal and the breach had been plunged, he said.

District Coordination Officer Abdul Razzaq Qureshi, EDO of revenue, Nawabshah Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan and police officials also reached the breached spot.

LANDLORD JOINS PPP: A seasoned politician and an influential landlord of Jamali clan Mir Maqbool Khan Jamali joined the Pakistan Peoples Party, here on Thursday.

Mir Maqbool Khan Jamali of Sakrand taluka remained close to former Prime Minster Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.

He said earlier also they were affiliated with it but as of now the reversal had been unconditional and with the efforts of former MNA Rafiq Ahmed Jamali.
