HARIPUR, Nov 22: At least 29 prospective candidates obtained nomination papers for the general elections from the offices of their respective returning officers for different constituencies here on Thursday.
Haripur district, which has a total number of 480,000 voters and 45 union councils, has four provincial assembly seats, besides a National Assembly seat.
Official sources said former minister of state for finance Omar Ayub Khan, his arch-rival former district nazim Dr Raja Amer Zaman Khan, his brother Raja Shadab Khan, PPP’s Pervez Akhtar Rana and Syed Waqar Hussain Shah were handed out their forms for NA 19. And for PF 49, former provincial minister Raja Faisal Zaman Khan and former PML-N provincial minister Sardar Mushtaq Khan received their papers.
A total of six forms were received by the expected candidates for PF 50, including former provincial assembly speaker Major (retd) Habibullah Khan Tareen, Arshad Ayub Khan, the younger brother of district nazim Yousuf Ayub Khan, and Sher Yar Khan Tareen, a former union nazim.
For PF 51, former provincial ministers Akhtar Nawaz Khan of the MMA and Sardar Mushtaq Khan of the PML-N got their papers, and for PF 52 former MPA Faisal Zaman of the PML-Q received his.
For NA 17 Abbottabad 1, former petroleum minister Amanullah Khan Jadoon of the PML(Q) and Sardar Abrar Ahmed of the PPP received their papers.
For NA 18 Abbottabad 2, Sardar Yaqub former Deputy speaker NA and Khursheed Azam Khan of the PML(N) received their papers. For NA 19 Haripur, former minister of state for finance Omar Ayub Khan, his arch-rival former district nazim Raja Amer Zaman Khan, PPP’s Pervez Akhtar Rana Advocate and Waqar Hussain Shah of the Freedom Party received theirs.
