KARACHI, Nov 22: Caretaker Sindh Home Minister Brig (retd) Akhtar Zamin has said that the establishment of law and order, control over street crime and resolution of traffic problems are his foremost priorities.
He was chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office here on Thursday during which law and order situation, security plan for elections, and the steps taken for crime control came under discussion.
“Within the short time at our disposal, I want to take significant measures for the welfare
of people with the cooperation of police officials”, said Mr Zamin.
Regarding shortage of manpower, the minister said that the recruitment process must continue with the process of retirement.
Speaking about the problems being faced by people in the registration of FIRs, he directed the relevant officials to take necessary measures in this regard and warned of strict action against those officials who failed to follow the orders.
Expressing concern over the growing incidents of mobile phone thefts in the city, he said that the police department must take all possible steps at the earliest so as to solve this issue.
He said that if the department failed to take appropriate measures on time, nobody even the police officials and their families would not remain safe from such unscrupulous elements.
The minister said that each and every member of the police force was important and therefore, the personnel performing duties at unnecessary places be shifted from there and posted at important points. He said that their posting at the right places was necessary in the public interest and for the sake of maintaining law and order in the province.
Mr Zamin directed that no illegal orders be obeyed whether given to a Sepoy or an officer and force members should maintain the writ of their uniform. He urged them to learn to live and walk with their heads held high.
On the occasion, IG Sindh Ziaul Hasan and DIG Headquarters Waseem Ahmed gave briefings to the provincial minister.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Brig (retd) Ghulam Mohammed Mohtaram, Additional IG Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi, CCPO Azhar Farooqi, Additional IG Investigation Zafar Ahmed Farooqi, Additional IG Special Branch Babar Khattak, RPOs of Hyderabad and Sukkur Range and all the DIGs.—APP
