MANSEHRA, Nov 22: The Mansehra police arrested two activists of the Sunni Tehrik on Thursday on charges of inscribing the name of their group on walls.

Police sources said that Azar Ramzan Qadri and Ayaz Ahmad Qadri were picked up from their houses on charges of spreading sectarian hatred and inscribing the name of Sunni Tehrik at walls in public places.

Police produced the two before the judicial magistrate to obtain their physical remand but they were sent on judicial remand to jail.

The arrested activists denied the charges and said they had been framed as they had not defaced any walls.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Sunni Tehrik threatened to take out protest rallies if their two activists were not released soon. This was decided at an emergency meeting held in Mansehra following the arrest of the two accused.

Later, Maulana Qudratullah Qadri, the district amir of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan told journalists that two had been arrested as a result of a conspiracy against the Sunni Tehrik.

He said that religious and political parties regularly inscribed slogans on walls but no one had ever been arrested.
