Injured Umar Gul ruled out

By Our Sports Reporter

NEW DELHI, Nov 21: Fast bowler Umar Gul, who has been ruled out of the first Test against India, is to undergo further tests after complaining of pain in his lower back and the left side of his hip.

Dr Ahsan Hameed Malik, the Pakistan’s team media manager, told reporters that Umar won’t be risked into playing until he regained complete fitness.

“At the moment he is definitely out of the first Test. As a precaution, the team management has decided to send Umar for more check-ups and tests to ascertain the exact status of his problems,” Ahsan said.

Umar, a vital cog in the Pakistan bowling line-up, remained on the sidelines in

the past, more notably three years ago, when a stress frac-ture forced him out for 18 months shortly after bowling Pakistan to a big victory in the Lahore Test of the ground-breaking series against India in 2004.
