HYDERABAD: Govt keen on eradicating unemployment: official

HYDERABAD, Nov 21: The government is making efforts to appoint youth against available vacancies on merit to eradicate joblessness in the province, said the Sindh Chief Secretary Aijaz Ahmed Qureshi on Wednesday.
Addressing a meeting of Nazims in Tando Allahyar he said the caretaker Sindh government has decided to provide jobs to 18,000 candidates who earlier gave interviews for different posts but waiting due to political differences within previous administration.
The chief secretary further said 30,000 to 40,000 vacancies will be filled to reduce unemployment and meet shortage of staff in schools, colleges, hospitals and other public welfare organizations. He said the caretaker government is keen on improving education and health sectors by utilizing the available resources.
Maintenance of law and order would be the prime duty of this government he said and announced to establish a girls’ college in Tando Allahyar.
He expressed satisfaction over the development work being carried out by the Tando Allahyar district government and said these mega development projects have made it a modern district.
Responding to complaints of artificial shortage of irrigation water, the Chief Secretary directed the authorities concerned to ensure judicious distribution and supply of water up to tail-end.
He said it has been decided to strengthen police force for improvement in peaceful atmosphere as this will give a boost investment and economic activities.
District Nazim Dr Rahila Magsi said development projects of communication, gas, electricity, education and health facility have either been completed or were being carried out in all three talukas and 19 UCs of the district. She said development works are being carried out without any discrimination. She said she has handed over Rs7.2 million to the management of Sui Southern Gas Company for providing gas to seven villages. Lauding the services of President General Parvez Musharraf she said political forces within the local government have full confidence in his leadership and vision.
Former provincial revenue minister Dr Irfan Gul Magsi also spoke on the occasion, while the DCO Tando Allahyar briefed the Chief Secretary about development and administrative affairs.Later, the Chief Secretary Sindh inaugurated the Works & Services Department Tando Allahyar and visited Tando Allahyar Gymkhana, District Complex, Shalimar Bagh and different parts of the town.
