Sir Jee beats rivals to score 2nd win at KRC

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Nov 18: Three-year-old bay colt Sir Jee justified the confidence reposed in him when he galloped to a facile six lengths victory to make it two-in-a-row in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Public fancy Sir Jee was among other favourite horses who returned with flying colours in a card of nine races. In the process, he halted the winning streak of filly Sugar Sweet having four successive wins under her belt.

Trained by Allah Judrio, the winner was piloted home by former champion rider Mohammad Essa.

Rolex came in third by finishing three lengths behind while The Princess Arab completed the board in the six furlongs race.

Apart from Sir Jee, Crown Prince, Moomal, Vice Admiral and Dragon Heart also rose to the occasion as predicted by Dawn.

Two-year-old bay filly Moomal lifted The Neario Stakes under rider Nasir when she edged another filly Flawless Victory with ease by four-and-a-half lengths. The Strides By Strides Stakes ended in a blaze of glory for three-year-old bay filly Fantastic Baby who, despite making her appearance after a two-month layoff, beat Phapha Kutni by a length. This was also days feature event.

In fact, running on the heels of Phapha Kutni, Fantastic Baby cashed in the advantage after the former went wide in straight.

Fantastic Baby had the honour of setting a course record with six straight wins in August before going down to Abhi Abhi in the Defence Day Cup on Sept 9. Jockey Nasir emerged as the most successful rider by storming home four winners. Besides Moomal, he his other winners were filly Crown Prince, colt Vice Admiral and chestnut Desert Hawk.

Crown Prince posted eight-and-a-half lengths victory over NYX, Vice Admiral completed hat-trick registering nine lengths win over Leopard Of Arab while Desert Hawk made amends outpacing Moon Baby by half length.

He was followed by Shabbir who partnered a brace in Back In Action and The Ghazan Prince in second and concluding race.

A long time winner in waiting filly Little Girl overcame Desperado by two-and-a-half lengths to land the remaining race.
