JI workers hold rally against emergency

By Our Correspondent

CHITRAL, Nov 18: Activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) demanded the lifting of emergency at a protest rally in Darosh Town on Sunday.

The rally was addressed by

JI district amir Maulana Ghulam Mohammad, former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and former chairman of district council Khursheed Ali Khan.

The speakers called for restoration of the Constitution and release of all political workers, and condemned the curbs on media.

The protesters chanted anti-Musharraf slogans.

MONEY ALLOCATED: The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) has allocated Rs3 million for the rehabilitation of irrigation channels and drinking water supply schemes in Sonoghur village.

The village had been hit by a flood last which rendered around 120 families homeless.

A woman organisation donated Rs0.2 million to the programme for rehabilitation purposes.

It is worth mentioning that the Sonoghur village is a popular tourist spot known for its scenic beauty.

More than 120 families of the village are still residing in tents since the flood in July last.
