Published November 19, 2007

KARACHI, Nov 18: The Pakistan People’s Party has decided to boycott meetings of the Chief Election Commission in the provincial capital scheduled to be held on Monday to discuss the code of conduct with the political parties for the forthcoming election.

This was stated by the secretary-general of the PPP Sindh chapter, Nafees Siddiqui, at a news conference held at the residence of the provincial president of the PPP, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, on Sunday.

He said that the PPP strongly believed that the current Chief Election Commissioner was neither neutral nor independent; therefore, the party would not attend the meeting.

PPP Sindh Information Secretary Dr Fehmida Mirza, General Secretary PPP Karachi, Rafiq Engineer and Waqar Mehdi were also present.

Nafees Siddiqui said that the Pakistan People’s Party was engaged in dialogue with all opposition parties to seek their support on a minimum agenda to wage struggle against General Pervez Musharraf and to restore democracy in the country.
