Sir Jee tipped to excel today despite Sugar Sweet threat

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Nov 17: Three-year-old bay colt Sir Jee should have to go all out by overcoming filly Sugar Sweet to make it two on trot when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Both are strong contenders for winning honours in the six furlongs fifth race of the programme with seven runners in fray.

To be ridden by Ghulam Shabbir II, Sugar Sweet has proved her mettle winning the last four races in sequence while Sir Jee returned victorious in the last outing. Rider Essa will be aboard on Sir Jee on Sunday.

A card of nine races including two cups has been drawn for the day with first race getting into action at 12.00noon.

Two-year-old bay filly Moomal looks certain to land The Neario Stakes 2007, a handicap race for two-year-old colts and fillies.

Following two dismal runs, she claimed her maiden victory beating Discreet Cat by four-and-a-half lengths on Oct 23.

She is likely to be chased by colt Star Is Born filly Flawless Victory for the places.

Five-year-old bay Tharkyee seems smart to make amends by claiming The Strides By Strides 2007, which is also the day’s feature event.

His likely challengers among nine aspirants in the six furlongs class III and IV race are Truf Shot and Phapha Kutni. Filly Fantastic Baby who will be making her appearance after a two-month layoff, can also put up a good show.

Of late, Desperado has not come up to the mark and if tried in the seventh race can beat the lot. After winning two back-to-back races in Aug-Sept he was among those who also ran, the reason being not tried by the connection.

Chestnut Desert Hawk and filly Sweetie Pie are our fancy in the last two races.

Three-year-old bay colt Vice Admiral is on course for a hat-trick should he edge opponents in the fourth race while Crown Prince and Eager Saint are tipped to dominate the first and second race.
