KARACHI: Dacoit shot dead in ‘encounter’

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 16: Police on Friday killed a dacoit in what they described as an encounter, when the alleged culprit was trying to escape after looting a passenger coach on Sharea Faisal.

According to police, Waqas, 20, boarded Dost Coach from Natha Khan bus stop and later pulled out a pistol and held the passengers hostage. After looting cash, cellphones and jewellery from the passengers, the young dacoit got off the bus at Star Gate bus stop.

“One of the women got off the coach with the dacoit and chased him, who ran into Shah Faisal Colony,” said Javed Meher, SP Shah Faisal Town.

“The woman later found two police constables — Mukhtar and Shahbaz — and informed them about the incident, who chased the guy and gunned him down after an encounter.”

He said that the police recovered two mobile phones, two gold earrings, a gold chain and two gold rings and a TT pistol from the deceased.

“The body was later handed over to the deceased’s brother, who is a taxi driver and resides in Model Colony,” added SP Meher.
