Eurozone trade surplus rises in Sept

BRUSSELS, Nov 16: The eurozone saw a sharp improvement in its trade surplus in September despite the strength of the 13-nation bloc’s shared currency, official EU data showed on Friday.

The eurozone’s trade balance with the rest of the world recorded a surplus of 3.1 billion euros ($4.5 billion) in September, up from 1.9 billion in August and 2.3 billion in September 2006, the Eurostat data agency said.

Eurostat had originally estimated a 1.3 billion euro surplus for August.

Exports rose 4 per cent to 126.2 billion euros in September, while imports climbed 3 per cent to 123 billion.—AFP
