GUJRANWALA, Nov 15: The city district police claimed to have arrested seven members of two kidnappers’ gangs and recovered an industrialist, his driver and the ransom money besides illicit arms and a car from their custody.
DIG (Operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti told journalists here on Thursday that the accused had kidnapped Muhammad Iqbal of Irfat Colony and his driver Ramzan from the industrial estate a few days back. He said the kidnappers had taken Rs1.85 million ransom from Iqbal’s family and were demanding more for his release.
The DIG said that police raided the hideout of kidnappers and arrested them besides safely recovering both abductees and the ransom amount.
Mr Bhatti identified the arrested accused as Shakeel of the Shero gang, and Jehangir, Irfan Masih, Azmat Masih, Yasir Ansari, Attique and Asim of the Taseer gang.
He said the arrested gangsters had also killed three people, Sidiq of Garjakh, Tariq Mahmood of Gobindgarh and Taimoor Nisar of Garjakh, after kidnapping them for ransom some two months back.
POSTPONED: The execution of two condemned prisoners was postponed for a fortnight by the president on the request of heirs of the accused party here on Thursday.
Reports said that condemned prisoners Rafique of Kamoke and Muhammad Mansha of Wazirabad had killed Sarwar and Yousaf over an old enmity some 10 years ago. The sessions court had handed them down death sentence while the apex courts upheld the decision as well. Their mercy appeal was also rejected by the president.
The court had issued their death warrants and fixed Nov 15 for their execution.
