KARACHI: Dengue claims two more lives

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 15: Following the provincial dengue monitoring cell’s confirmation of deaths of two more patients, the official tally of dengue-related deaths rose to 17 on Thursday.

Dr Shakeel Mullick, who heads the dengue cell, told Dawn that a 19-year-old man tested positive for dengue was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on Nov 10 and died on Nov 14. The deceased was a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Earlier, a woman, aged 20, a resident of Federal B Area, succumbed to the deadly mosquito-borne disease on Nov 11 at Dr Ziauddin Hospital, he said.

The Sindh health department’s data on dengue, however, did not include three deaths reported in October and early September.

The overall figure of dengue patients brought to various government and private hospitals during the last three months or so has reached 2,498.
