KARACHI, Nov 15: The Additional District and Sessions Judge-II (Central), Nelofer Shahnawaz Azimi, on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a 14-year-old boy’s murder case till Nov 16 due to the absence of the defence counsel.
The court on Nov 13 had issued a notice to the Sindh health secretary directing him to ensure the presence of two medico-legal officers (MLOs) of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in the court. The court had also issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the two MLOs as they had not been appearing to testify in the case for the last six years.
The MLOs, however, through an application have requested the court to grant them more time as they have been transferred to Hyderabad.
According to the prosecution, Mohammad Younus, son of Mohammad Darvesh, had stabbed 14-year-old Mohammad Ghiyas, son of Mohammad Saleem, in Liaquatabad after an exchange of hot words with him in Super Market police limits on August 20, 2001.
The injured boy could not survive though he was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The autopsy of the body was conducted by Dr Sarfaraz Gul and Dr Zafar Shah. However, the MLOs did not appear in court to testify. The accused was booked under Section-302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case (FIR No 84/01) at Super Market police station.
Couple’s murder case
A bail before arrest application submitted by Shaikh Abdul Majeed, father of the late Hafiz Shaikh Mohammad Azeem, could not be heard on Wednesday as the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Central, Tasneem Sultana was on a leave. The court, however, fixed Nov 28 as the next date of hearing.
Hafiz Shaikh Mohammad Azeem and his bride Beenish were found dead under mysterious circumstances the next morning of their wedding night in their North Nazimabad apartment in Taimuria police limits on Aug 11. A case (FIR No391/07) was registered under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
On Oct 27, Investigation Officer Khalid Khan of New Karachi police station had submitted a progress report to the Judicial Magistrate-12, Central, Abdul Zahoor Chandio, nominating Mr Majeed as the main accused in the double murder case.
