Lawyers in no mood to bow

Dawn Report

GUJRANWALA, Nov 14: Lawyers appear to be in no mood to bow as they continued boycotting court proceedings against the imposition of emergency and promulgation of the Provisional Constitution Order.

In Gujranwala, the district bar association continued its boycott and held a meeting on Wednesday in the barroom for adopting future course of action.

The meeting decided that lawyers would carry on their protest movement till the reinstatement of the deposed judges.

Police did not allow media people to enter the barroom and their access to lawyers. Photojournalists were even barred from entering to the district court premises.

FAISALABAD: Lawyers went on with their protest and stayed away from court proceedings against attack on judges and subdue powers of apex courts.

A meeting of the general house was held at an undisclosed location with vice-president Mian Afzal in the chair. The meeting demanded immediate withdrawal of emergency, revoking PCO and reinstatement of judges. They also called for the release of lawyers and asked President Pervez Musharraf to step down.

Meanwhile, police continued besieging of district court premises and most of the lawyers were not allowed to enter. Similar treatment was also meted out to visitors and litigants.

MULTAN: The lawyers’ community refused to attend the courts on the ninth continuous day on Wednesday.

Bar members lit the lamps to pay tributes to their detained colleagues and vowed to continue their struggle till the withdrawal of emergency and reinstatement of deposed judges.

Lawyers also held a meeting in district bar hall and demonstrated outside the district courts as well.

Speakers said that judges who had taken oath under the PCO committed an act of revolt against the country, constitution and the nation.

A letter written by detained secretary-general Muhammad Naved Rana was also distributed by the HCBA among lawyers and media people conveying them the message to continue their struggle.

SHEIKHUPURA: Lawyers did not attend courts and held a meeting to pay tributes to detained lawyers and those who were released on bail on Tuesday.

They were welcomed warmly on their arrival at the barroom. The lawyers also chanted slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to journalists, district bar association president Nasrullah Wattoo said the government had detained those lawyers who were leaving for Saudi Arabia to perform Haj.

OKARA: Lawyers in Okara have decided to continue boycott of full-day court proceedings till Nov 17. The district bar association took the decision in its executive committee meeting here on Wednesday with bar president Malik Maqbool Hussain Shakir in the chair.

Similarly, Deepalpur bar president Malik Niaz Ahmed said that the tehsil bar would also go on with the whole day strike.

VEHARI: Bar members observed a complete strike against the imposition of emergency in the country.
