Afridi apologises for Gambhir spat

New Delhi, Nov 13: Explosive Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has apologised to India’s Gautam Gambhir after the two got entangled in an ugly duel during the Kanpur One-day International on Sunday

”It was my mistake and I realised it. I told him I am sorry, so the matter is closed now. Relations between the two sides remain good,” Afridi said in a chat with reporters on Tuesday.

The two players were seen exchanging words after the Gambhir hit Afridi for a boundary which was followed by a mid-pitch collision.

Umpire Ian Gould of England had to intervene before the matter was resolved.

Afridi said his reaction stemmed from frustration and the fact that the rub of the green kept going India’s way.

“The batsmen were dominating and we were not doing well. I was angry and when Gambhir came through I just reacted and did the wrong thing in the heat of the moment.

But I regret it now,” Afridi said. “I play my cricket with lot of intensity and I was upset at my own bowling as well,” he added.—Agencies
