By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 13: Police here on Tuesday registered cases against Pakistan People’s Party workers, including members of the Lyari Town council, after they had held a protest against placing the party’s chairperson Benazir Bhutto under house arrest in Lahore.

An official said three FIRs had been registered in three police stations of the town.“The cases have been registered at Kalakot, Baghdadi and Chakiwara police satiations,” said Fayyaz Khan, SP of Lyari Town.

He said the cases had been registered against the “violent protest” of the PPP workers, which had damaged public property.

The Chakiwara police had registered the FIR under sections 147, 148, 149, 353, 427, 324, 353 and 286 of the Pakistan Penal Code, a duty office said. “It includes names of councillors of Lyari Town, nazims of union councils and senior PPP leaders.”

Sources said the two other FIRs had been registered under the same sections.
