MIRPURKHAS: Council calls for wheat seed supply

By Our Correspondent

MIRPURKHAS, Nov 13: The Mirpurkhas District Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted several resolutions, demanding of the government to provide certified wheat seed, ask the sugar mills to start sugarcane crushing, force the defaulter sugar mills to pay outstanding dues to growers, control the mealy bug disease and end the rotation programme of irrigation water.

EDO agriculture Ghulamullah Jarwar informed the house that certified seed of wheat would be available to the growers from Sakrand institute, however, admitted that there was shortage of DAP fertilizer while companies had increased the fertilizers’ prices.

He warned that dealers would not be allowed to sell DAP fertilizer in black.

He further said that for sensitising growers about the mealy bug disease, centres were being set up on union council level.

He said that government had lodged case against different sugar mills which had failed to start crushing at the time. He said that work on livestock schemes had been started in the district.

On the complaint of Mr Wali Mohammad Inqalabi regarding the non-cooperation of filed staff, the convener directed the EDO agriculture to direct field staff to cooperate with the UC nazims and their salaries should be disbursed after an NOC by their respective nazims.

The meeting demanded of the government to ensure availability of certified wheat seed in the district instead of the Sakrand institute.

Council member Shamim Jhandir complained that District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo recently distributed sewing machines among a few selected people without consulting the women council members.

She claimed that she was being victimised for raising genuine problems of people. She further said that women councillors were not given a single form of the Baitul Maal.

Mirpurkhas district poultry officer Dr Aziz Khan also briefed the meeting. Mirpurkhas EDO health Dr Hadi Bux Leghari informed the house about the ongoing campaign against measles.

Chaudhry Ehsan-ul-Haq, Maher Ali Lashari, Syed Ali Mardan Shah, Mir Zafarullah Talpur, Mir Younus Talpur and Mujeeb Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
