KARACHI, Nov 13: A delegation of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan visited the Central Prison Karachi to meet the inmates, particularly the detained lawyers, on Tuesday.

The delegation comprising HRCP Secretary-General Iqbal Haider, council members Uzma Noorani and Asad Iqbal Butt, programme coordinator Muhammad Ejaz Ahsan and Adnan I. Chaudhry Advocate met the detained lawyers, including Abrar Hassan, Rasheed A. Rizvi, Hafeez Lakho, Abul Inam and HRCP’s advocate Jawed Iqbal Burqi.

They met Zubair Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Muhammad Hussain Mahenti of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, who told them that around 290 members of the MMA were detained in the central prison under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance.

They also listened to the grievances of general inmates.

Later, the delegation met the Inspector-General of Prison, Muhammad Yameen Khan, and Jail Superintendent Muzzafar Alam Siddiqui.—PPI
