Lawyers protest against emergency

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 12: After Sun-day’s recess lawyers continued their boycott of courts in the city and other districts of the province. The protesting lawyers at a meeting decided that their movement would continue till the restoration of the pre-emergency judiciary and release of lawyers, political workers, students and human rights activists.

Senior lawyer Kamran Murtaza presided over the meeting in the absence of jailed office-bearers of the Balochistan Bar Association and Balochistan High Court Bar Association.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the struggle and expressed satisfaction over the unity demonstrated by lawyers in boycotting courts and paralysing the judicial system.

The meeting severely criticised the government for denying family members’ access to the detained lawyers in Quetta, Mach and Loralai.

Meanwhile, former BBA president Mohsin Javed who suffered a heart attack in the district jail was moved to the ICU of the civil hospital on Sunday night.
