Vejmelka wins ITF Pakistan title

LAHORE, Nov 11: Top seed Adam Vejmelka of Czech Republic won the ITF Pakistan 3Future tennis championship defeating second seed Ashutosh Singh of India, at the Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday.

Ashutosh, who ousted Pakistan’s lone hope Aqeel Khan from the semi-final proved a tough opponent for Adam, the winner of the first Future event of Pakistan held in Islamabad last month.

Adam, who failed to maintain his winning spree after winning the title in Islamabad lost the semi-final in the second at the Cosmopolitan Club, this time was more committed for his second title of the tour as he won after a hard fought battle, producing the score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (6).

Ashutosh, soon after losing the first set came back to settle the issue winning the second for 1-1 score. But a gruelling fight for every point in the third stretched the final to the tie-breaker where Adam showed more stamina and technique to overpower Ashutosh to eventually win.

Pakistan-India series: The first leg of Pakistan-India tennis series will be held at Defence Club on Nov 13 and 14.

The second leg will be organized at Islamabad Complex on Nov 15 and 16.

The star players of both the neighboring countries will be featuring in the series.

The Pakistan team consists of Aisam-ul-Haq, Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan while India team has in form players like Vevik Shokeen, Sunil Kumar and Aushtosh Singh.

Meanwhile, Aisam and Aqeel had a practice sessions at Defence Club on Sunday. Muhammad Arif Qureshi, ITF White Badge will be referee for the both the legs while Asif Akhtar Alvi and Shahzad Akhtar Alvi, also the ITF white badge official will conduct the matches as chair umpires.
