LAHORE, Nov 11: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) will launch its protest movement from November 14 and sustain it till the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) is withdrawn, the removed judges are reinstated and the Constitution is restored.

At a press conference here on Sunday, MMA central leader Liaquat Baloch said Nov 14 would be observed as “black day”, festooning the city roads and crossings with black flags.

November 15, he said, would be observed as “solidarity day” to support the media and the judiciary in their struggle against dictatorship. The alliance leaders would present bouquets to the removed judges on the day, while rallies and demonstrations would start from Nov 16 and go on till the movement’s objectives were met, he added.

Flanked by local leaders of the MMA, Bloach said the movement was being launched from the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) platform. The alliance was in touch with other political forces and trying to coordinate bigger effort, he added.

He said the MMA was also in contact with Pakistan People’s Party and welcomed its change of heart and stance on military dictatorship. The alliance, he said, expected the PPP to snap all contacts with the military ruler and come clean on what had happened so far.

The PPP, he said, had announced Nov 14 long march, but it was still to contact other parties.

In order to show sincerity with the opposition, the PPP should immediately quit national and provincial assemblies, he added.—Staff Reporter
