KARACHI: Candlelit vigil for democracy

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 10: Activists of various civil society organisations on Saturday took part in a candlelit protest outside the Karachi Press Club over the imposition of emergency rule in the country.

Dozens of members of different NGOs and rights organizations, including the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Aurat Foundation, Irtiqa Institute of Social Sciences and Women Action Forum, lit candles outside the KPC and chanted slogans against emergency rule in Pakistan.

They were also carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans demanding the reinstatement of deposed judges and restoration of a ‘true democracy’ in the country. Police officials stood nearby to tackle any law and order situation.
