KARACHI: Journalists demand press freedom

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 10: The KUJ Dawn Unit has urged the government to lift the curbs on the media and revoke the Provisional Constitution Order immediately.

In a requisitioned meeting, journalists concluded that the government had no right to curtail the freedom of expression of the fourth pillar of the state.

They called for an immediate withdrawal of the PEMRA (Amendment) Ordinance, 2007 as well as the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies, and Books Registration (Amendment) Ordinance, 2007.

It was also decided that the Dawn’s editorial staffers would continue wearing black armbands as a mark of protest until their demands were met.
