NCA performance criticised

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Nov 9: While some members of the newly formed Governing Board of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have expressed dissatisfaction over the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) performance, objections over maintaining the financial record have also been raised by the others.

Sources told Dawn that one of the 15 members of the Governing Board opined there was no proper system in the NCA, adding it could not produce international-level cricketers.

On this, NCA Director Mudassar Nazar and his deputy Ali Zia tried to convince the Governing Board that a good number of international cricketers have been produced by the academy, saying it also produced good coaches.

But the member argued that almost all the players representing Pakistan had not received coaching from the NCA, while emphasising the point that there was no coach who could get a job abroad on NCA certification.

Meanwhile, another member of the Governing Board criticised the maintenance of the financial record, identifying in almost every expenditure, there was a huge amount mentioned in the column of ‘other head’, giving no details.

One of the members questioned how a sum of million could go into the ‘other head’ column without any details being provided. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) was advised to mention the details of the ‘other head’.

Sources further said the Governing Board also raised objection over sitting of non-member (PCB Staff) in the meeting and instructed this practice should not be repeated in the next meeting.

It was also decided that a secretary of the Governing Board would be appointed to prepare minutes of the meetings.

Another member objected to the set-up of the PCB Secretariat in Lahore, urging various changes there to run it more effectively.
