PIA fly high, ZTBL score first win: Quaid-i-Azam Trophy

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 9: PIA surged to the top of Group ‘B’ standings in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship after scoring an easy 262-run victory over Peshawar inside three days at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar on Friday.

PIA’s third win took their tally of points to 27 — the same as Islamabad, who suffered first defeat on Friday by six wickets against ZTBL, but the national carrier moved up on a better net run-rate.

Peshawar collapsed to 139 in the second innings after PIA skipper Faisal Iqbal declared his team’s innings at 283 for eight. Khurram Manzoor hit 142 while Faisal’s younger brother Fahad made 69 in what was his fourth successive half-century in the current championship.

ZTBL, meanwhile, successfully chased 138 to record their first victory after Islamabad were dismissed for 257 in the second innings. Left-arm paceman Mohammad Khalil claimed four for 81 to finish with match figures of 10 for 126.

Lahore Ravi also emerged early winners as they handed Pakistan Customs their fourth defeat in as many matches at the LCCA Ground in Lahore, romping to a nine-wicket success.
