KARACHI, Nov 9: A central leader of National Party, Senator Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, condemning the arrests of political leaders including NP secretary-general Mir Hasil Bizenjo, said that the crackdown against lawyers and members of civil society would in no way solve the ongoing multi-dimensional political crisis.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that the current political imbroglio in Pakistan was deeply rooted in Balochistan where rulers were engaged in suppressing the Baloch people, who have been striving for their national democratic rights.
The NP leader said that his party had always opposed the use of force for the solution of political problems and believed that only a viable democratic system ensuring rights of all the nationalities, protecting fundamental rights of all the citizens under a free judicial system and a free press could bring stability to the country.
He called for the restoration of the 1973 Constitution, reinstatement of all judges of the superior courts to their pre-emergency positions and release of all arrested persons including lawyers and political leaders.
The Baloch leader was of the view that the present situation would not serve the interests of the nation and the ongoing crisis which started from Balochistan would further aggravate and it would threaten the integrity of the country.
He said that under the prevailing conditions any rift in the ranks of the democratic forces would serve the interest of the rulers who were responsible for creating the “present mess” in the country.
