KARACHI, Nov 9: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the PML and its allies’ support to the leadership and decisions for President Pervez Musharraf reflected their confidence in the reforms agenda.

He was talking to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim at the Governor’s House here on Friday.

He said the government was committed to completing the third phase of transition towards streamlining the democratic process, and affirmed that general elections would be held before Feb 15, 2008 as announced by the president. He hoped that harmony among three pillars of state would pave the way for improving security situation and holding of general elections at the earliest.

The prime minister said that the PML and its allies were geared up for the upcoming elections and would bring forward best candidates in every constituency to gain an even greater majority in the national and provincial assemblies.

During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed about various ongoing public welfare projects in the province. He was also updated on the status of the ongoing projects assured of their timely completion.

The prime minister also held a meeting with Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf at Governor’s House on Friday.

He was briefed on the law and order in Balochistan and the status of federally funded mega projects, besides other matters.

Mr Aziz told them that the PML government and its allies had always given high priority to development in Balochistan and allocated record funds for the purpose.

Mr Aziz also met former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi at his residence and exchanged views on issues of national importance with reference to the political situation prevailing in the country.

The expected political developments before the upcoming general election and measures required to establish an environment conducive for the polls also came under discussion.—Agencies
