DUBAI, Nov 8: At least seven construction workers were killed on Thursday when a bridge being built in an upmarket district of Dubai collapsed, police said.
“At least seven people were killed, nine seriously injured and five others less seriously hurt,” said a police officer.
“More than 40 workers were on the bridge at the time,” he added.
An AFP journalist at the scene saw several bodies draped in sheets and at least three injured people lying on the ground.
The bridge was being constructed close to the Palm Jumeirah resort, a showpiece of the emirate’s construction boom, which relies largely on a workforce of hundreds of thousands of Asians.—AFP
