Removal of curbs sought

GILGIT, Nov 8: A joint meeting of the Gilgit Union of Journalists and the Gilgit Press Club on Thursday demanded the release of detained journalists and condemned amendments made to the Pemra Ordinance and the Press and Publication Ordinance by the government to muzzle the print and electronic media.

The joint meeting passed a resolution, demanding of the government to lift curbs on print and electronic media as soon as possible.

It expressed grave concern over the text of the amended Press and Publication Ordinance and Pemra Ordinance and termed the government action detrimental to the growth of free media in the country.—Correspondent
