Chinkara takes flying start to register swift win

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Nov 7: Sohail Aziz-trained Chinkara lived up to the confidence reposed in him by backers, winning the feature event, the Bhakkar Plate class-six top division, of the Lahore Gymkhana midweek races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The colt took a flying start under jockey M. Hanif and defeated Cheeta Aya by over eight lengths.

Mare Royal Victory, who was equally backed by her connections, was slow to come out of the starting gates and failed to take level start. She finished third after nosing out Shah Pari to complete the frame.

Before the race, race-goers thought it would be a good contest between Chinkara and Royal Victory but the latter proved slow and the event turned out a solo flight for Chinkara.

Royal Victory was ridden by M. Zeeshan.

Nine horses took part in the feature even which was the fifth and last contest of the day.

A race earlier, filly Pind De Kuri produced an excellent turn of foot to approach last 200 metres and registered a comfortable victory.

Owned by the Lahore Race Club (LRC), the filly beat late rushing Sher Khan by about four lengths to record her second successive win within a week.

God’s Gift and Malang Aya completed the board among ten runners.

Dark-bay colt Rose once again disappointed his backers by a lack luster performance in the third race.

He was beaten by another dark-bay colt Good Action, who took a slow start but gradually improved his speed with magnificent striding to win by a big margin of eight lengths.

The punters had an upper hand when three favourites obliged them in a card of five events. They were: Sohna Murad (50 to 100) Pind De Kuri (60 to 100) and Chinkara (80 to 100) in second, fourth and fifth races respectively.

Sohna Noor and Good Action were available at long odds in first and third events.
