HYDERABAD: Lawyers stage mock funerals of PCO

HYDERABAD, Nov 7: Lawyers across the province boycotted courts and staged mock funerals of Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) on Wednesday, the third consecutive day of their protest against imposition of emergency, dismissal of Chief Justice and arrests of lawyers, political activists and political leaders and activists.

Wearing black armbands they held general body meetings in the bar rooms within the courts premises and called for immediate return to democracy.

In Hyderabad, a general body meeting of the lawyers condemned imposition of emergency and demanded restoration of democratic rule.

In Nawabshah, members of District Bar Association continued boycott of courts, staged demonstration and a mock funeral of PCO at the sessions court premises. They also staged a demonstration outside the new court building.

The lawyers’ leaders at a general body meeting urged legal fraternity to unite for the noble cause and urged Pakistan People’s Party not to strike any deal with the present regime.

The meeting paid rich tributes to the honourable judges who had refused to take oath under PCO and vowed to continue struggle for the supremacy of judiciary and democracy.

In Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro, Bhirya, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Umerkot, Digri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Pithoro, Samaro, Kunri, Khairpur, Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi, Sehwan, Kotri, Larkana and Sukkur lawyers continued boycott of courts and termed the removal of Chief Justice unconstitutional.

The general body meetings of DBAs rejected imposition of emergency and decided not to accept the judges who had taken oath under PCO.

They condemned house-arrest of judges, arrest and manhandling of lawyers, human rights activists and media persons.

Dadu police, meanwhile, sent Barrister Pir Mujeebul Haq and president of Dadu DBA Shafi Mohammad to district jail under MPO for three months.
