KARACHI, Nov 7: Police registered a case of sedition against eight lawyers on late Tuesday night on the directives of high authorities, it is learnt.

A duty officer of the City Courts police station told Dawn that FIR 114/2007 had been lodged on behalf of the state under section 124(a)/34, which pertains to sedition.

The eight lawyers are Maqbool Hasan, Javed Tanoli, Sabir Tanoli, Mohammad Aslam Bhatti, Masoodur Rehman, Mohammad Imran Khan, Khurram Nisar and Jamila Manzoor.

The case was registered at the City Courts police station at around 12.30am on Tuesday on the directives from higher-ups, source said. None of the lawyers nominated in the FIR had been arrested, police said.
