Top seed Vinod in quarter-finals

KARACHI, Nov 6: Top seed Vinod Das advanced into the men’s singles last eight without playing a match in the 17th Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Vinod, who got a first round bye, was awarded a walkover when his opponent Essa Jee failed to turn up.

Those who joined him in the next stage are Abdul Waheed, Naresh Das, M. Naseem and Jahangir Rasheed.

Third seed Robin Das had already made it to the quarter-finals on Monday.

Azher Qureshi inflicted 7-5, 7-5 defeat on Adil Tanoli on way to making it to the last eight in boys U-15 singles.

Promising Khwaja Hamza also notched up his first win when he overcame Yawar Abbas 8-2 in convincing fashion in boys U-11 singles.

Results:

Men’s singles (pre quarter-finals): Abdul Waheed bt Changez Hassan Khan 6-2, 6-1; Naresh Das bt Adnan Yousuf 6-2, 6-2; M. Naseem bt Steve Jonathan 6-1, 6-0; Jahangir Rasheed bt Ali Zubair 6-2, 6-2; Vinod Das w/o M. Essa Jee.

Boys U-11 singles: Khwaja Hamza bt M. Yawar Abbas 8-2.

Boys U-15 singles (pre quarter-finals): Azher Qureshi bt Adil Tanoli 7-5, 7-5.

Ladies singles (round robin): Seher Khwaja bt Shermeen 6-0, 6-0.

Girls U-17 singles (round robin): Uzma Zakaria bt Rija 8-2.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Men’s singles (quarter-finals) 11.00am; juniors U-17 singles (quarter-finals) 2.00pm; ladies singles (round robin) 3.00pm.
