Use of force criticised

ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: Leader of Opposition in the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has condemned the use of force against judges, politicians, lawyers, rights activists and journalists.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, he urged the government to release Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan, Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan, Senator Abdul Rahim Mandokhail, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Javed Hashmi and Qazi Hussain Ahmed.

Mr Rabbani also condemned continuing police raids on the house of Mr Aitzaz Ahsan in Lahore and Islamabad and a raid on the HRCP office in Lahore.

“The gagging of the print and electronic media is strongly deplored. The raids on the office of Jang in Karachi and Aaj TV are examples of intolerance of the regime,” Mr Rabbani said.

He said there was no justification for the imposition of emergency and the suspension of the Constitution.
