CNG-2000 win bridge championship


KARACHI, Nov 5: CNG-2000 with 94 victory points (VPs) grabbed the Duplicate Bridge Swiss League Championship at the Aslam Bridge Hall on Sunday.

CNG-2000, having services of Nasir Reza Khan-S. M. Ozair and Abdul Khaliq- Ameer Hasan, defeated Candyland 24-6.

In their second match, they overcame Solox 18-12. Shipyard became victim of their own aggression 7-23 in the third round, paving way for CNG-2000 to victory.

Mushahid gave them a bit tough time as the match ended in a draw with both the teams scoring 30 VPs.

Zeenat-IV met CNG-2000 in the last round and won the match 16-14.

Mahmood-IV with Iqbal Hyder, Nuri Pasha, Ibrahim Baig, Mahmood Naqvi and Dr Hasan in their fold mustered 89 points.

They defeated Puris 25-5, Candyland 24-6 but lost to Solox 11-19 and Shipyard 13-17.

Zeenat-IV scored 88 VPs for the third berth.

They won against Abedies 16-14, Attackers 23-7, Solox 19-11, CNG-2000 16-14 but lost to Mushahid 11-19.

The team comprised Zeenat Azwer, Anis-ur-Rehman, Immad Sayeed and Yousuf Gheewala.

In the pairs, Tariq Zafar-Mahmood Siddiqui outclassed their adversaries with an impressive score of 60.29 per cent in the Green Section, just above the Zeenat Azwer-Anisur-Rehman pair which scored 60 per cent.

Ghulam Mohammad-Jamal Nizami outclassed more experienced pairs in the Red Section.

They ended at the top with a score of 59.48 per cent, followed by Ziaullah Baig-Hamed Mohiuddin 58.54 per cent.—APP
