KARACHI, Nov 5: Third seed Robin Das whipped Bilal Soomro in straight sets to book a berth in quarter-finals in the 17th Talent Hunt Sindh Ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Monday.
Robin, who got a bye in the first round, was home 6-4, 6-3 in his second round match.
Top seed Vinod Das who also got a bye open’s his campaign when he meets Essa Jee on Tuesday at 1.00pm. The latter qualified to meet top seed after inflicting a 6-0, 3-0 defeat on Nadeem Ikram, who was forced to retire on Monday.
Five juniors also propelled into the last-eight stage registering victories over their respective opponents. Only Asadullah had to struggle hard to overcome fighting Azher Qureshi 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, the organisers have decided to conduct ladies and girls U-17 singles matches on round robin league instead of knockout in view of lack of entries.
Bad light stopped the opening ladies’ singles match between Anum Saeed and Sarah Ahmed with former enjoying 3-0 lead in the first set. The match now resumes on Tuesday.
