Govt action against protesters slammed

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, Nov 5: The Sindh United Party on Monday condemned the imposition of emergency in the country and arrest of lawyers and political and human rights activists.

Talking to reporters at Hyder Manzil, Syed Zain Shah, secretary general of the party said that the emergency was not imposed due to increasing incidents of terrorism or adverse law and order situation but for the cases in Supreme Court against presidential elections, National Reconciliation Ordinance and deportation of Nawaz Sharif and the government the court might give decisions against it.

He said that Gen Musharraf should take advantage of emergency and gather all the moderate forces at one platform to control extremism. Musharraf had always said that he wanted the country to be a moderate state like Turkey but had not taken any steps for it, he said.

He said that people were deprived of their basic rights during last 60 years which helped the growth of extremism. He demanded that Musharraf should remove Objective Resolution from the 1973 Constitution and separate religion and politics.
