Partial strike in Sindh

HYDERABAD, Nov 5: Partial strike was observed in Sindh on the call of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz on Monday, to protest the delay in release of Dr Safdar Sarki, General Secretary of the party, granted bail by the court.

A large number of party activists were arrested by police. District President Tando Muhammad Khan, Abdul Raheem had been detained at Shaikh Bhirkio Police Station, four activists in Nawabshah, while District President Jamshoro, Abdul Hameed and several others by Jamshoro Police.

Mumtaz was injured in Moro when police resorted to baton charge. Later, he was arrested with other party activists.

When contacted by telephone, party’s Senior Vice Chairman Dr Niaz Kalani said at least 1,000 party activists had been rounded up from different districts.

He said police were conducting raids on the houses of main party leaders, including himself and Chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi.

In Hyderabad, strike was observed only in Qasimabad Taluka while there was no sign of strike in city and Latifabad Talukas. No untoward incident was reported from there.

Complete strike was observed in Tando Muhammad Khan city and adjoining towns with shops staying closed. Police arrested the District President JSQM, Abdul Raheem Halepoto and detained him at the Shaikh Bhirkio Police Station.

NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah Police along with Rangers raided different parts of the city and arrested a number of JSQM activists. Meanwhile, partial strike was observed in Nawabshah.

Complete strike was also observed in Daur and adjoining areas, while Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed, Doulatpur and other parts were remained open.

SHIKARPUR: People of Shikarpur gave no response to the shutter down strike call by the JSQM.

Police detained JSQM and JSM activists, including Mujeeb Qureshi, Imran Soomro, Bilawal Mangi and others. Rangers and police were patrolling the National Highway and city roads.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Markets in Padidan was closed up to 1pm. Police arrested JSQM activist Abdul Rahim Khokhar. In Moro, JSQM activist Mumtaz was injured when police baton charged and arrested him in Shahi Bazaar. Moro police also arrested JSQM (Arisar group) leader Achar Lund.

Partial strike for two hours was observed in Tharushah and Kandiaro. Mehrabpur Police arrested three JSQM activists Moojoi, Mumtaz Nagraj and Zamir Memon late Sunday night. Heavy police contingents continued patrolling in Naushahro Feroze, Kandiaro, Moro, Tharushah and other towns.

THATTA: Shutter down strike was observed in different towns, except Thatta city.

Gharo, Daro, Jhoke Sharif, Jhampir remained closed. Partial strike was observed in Mirpur Bathoro, Sujawal and some other towns.

Heavy contingents of police and rangers were deployed at different chowks.

BADIN: People gave no response to the call given by the JSQM.

DADU: Complete shutter down strike was observed in Dadu and Mehar towns. A heavy contingent of police was deployed at different points and patrolling continued. In Mehar, police arrested six JSQM activists.
