KARACHI, Nov 5: Two more people died from the viral infections in Deh Allah Bano, part of the Gabopat Union Council, Keamari Town, raising the death toll over the past few weeks to 12.

According to the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) representative Surriya Talpur, an 18-year-old boy, Allah Baksh, a resident of Mohammad Siddique Village, died on Friday and Mohammad Hashim, father of four, on Saturday in Mohammad Allu Village.

Mohammad Hashim was diagnosed to have contracted malaria but Allah Baksh had reportedly recovered from an unidentified viral fever.

She said there had been no improvement in the situation in Deh Allah Bano since the outbreak of viral infections in the union council over a month back.

“The organisation has been receiving desperate calls from villagers seeking help in transporting the critically ill people to hospitals as they lacked adequate resources. There has been no significant intervention by the city government so far,” she said.

About the diagnosis of the disease, she said that some cases were diagnosed as malaria but many others couldn’t be diagnosed so far though their tests had been performed at the Civil Hospital Karachi about a week back.
