Saad stars as Islamabad score third victory : Quaid-i-Azam Trophy

KARACHI, Nov 4: Islamabad continued their winning streak in the Quad-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship when they defeated their neighbours Rawalpindi by six wickets on the fourth and final of the match at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad on Sunday.

Opener Raheel Majeed struck an unbeaten 67 to pilot the Group ‘B’ leaders to third win in as many matches. Earlier, paceman Saad Altaf claimed the remaining two wickets to finish with splendid figures of seven for 63 as Rawalpindi were all out for 203 in the second innings. Saad took 10 for 118 in the game.

PIA cantered to an eight-win victory after Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq top-scored with 51 in ZTBL’s second-innings total of 173.

In other matches Faisalabad condemned Pakistan Customs to their third straight loss with an eight-wicket triumph; National Bank defeated Lahore Ravi by seven wickets; SNGPL beat KRL by 53 runs.

Wapda, meanwhile, walloped Multan by an innings and 34 runs to register second successive win.

At Multan Cricket Stadium: Wapda beat Multan by an innings and 34 runs.

MULTAN 238 in 73.5 overs (Kashif Naved 89, Abdul Rauf 47; Azharullah 5-64) and 208 in 57.3 overs (Mohammad Sarwar 54 not out, Abdul Rauf 43; Sarfraz Ahmed 3-29, Azharullah 3-80); WAPDA 480 in 140.2 overs (Bilal Khilji 147, Aqeel Ahmed 61, Sarfraz Ahmed 55, Aamir Sajjad 41; Ahmed Raza 5-111).

At Sheikhupura Stadium: PIA beat ZTBL by eight wickets.

At KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi: SNGPL beat KRL by 53 runs.

SNGPL 254 in 81.1 overs (Azhar Shafiq 75, Saleem Mughal 54; Akhtar Ayub 4-72, Yasir Arafat Sr 3-49) and 175 in 75.4 overs (Umar Akmal 43; Yasir Arafat Sr 4-43, Jaffar Nazir 3-37); KRL 190 in 61.3 overs (Ali Naqvi 66; Asad Ali 5-57) and 186 in 66.1 overs (Mohammad Wasim 54; Asad Ali 5-51, Adil Raza 3-67).

At Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore: National Bank beat Lahore Ravi by seven wickets.
