Sir Jee obliges punters with facile victory

KARACHI, Nov 4: Three-year-old bay colt Sir Jee halted filly Taiz Per’s winning reign by galloping to a facile five-length victory in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Installed as favourite in the betting ring, Sir Jee, who was beaten by Quince in the last run, atoned for the loss by reigning supreme in the six furlongs eighth race which was reduced to seven runners following Sharp Cat’s withdrawal.

Occupying third place five-and-a-half lengths away was mare Closing Argument while colt Cash Flow completed the frame finishing further four lengths behind.

In an earlier race, favourite four-year-old bay colt Captain Black outclassed colt Truf Shot imposing 10 lengths victory to claim feature event with jockey Ghulam Shabbir II in the saddle.

Tharkyee and Stormy Kiss followed the two in same order as filly Phapha Kutni was not backed by the connection.

Earlier, Shabbir piloted colt Dark Secret and mare Marista to victory in back-to-back races to end the day on a successful note with treble.

Dark Secret edged Jadu Jantar by six-and-a-half lengths while Marista was home by one-and-a-half length.

The trio comprising owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, trainer Allah Judrio and rider Essa were jubilant with their double which came through the victories of mare Fruity and filly Sugar Sweet in the fourth and ninth races.

Joint favourite Fruity picked up spoils beating Count The Money by one-quarter-of-a-length while favourite Sugar Sweet crossed the finishing post two-and-a-half lengths ahead of Rolex to make it four on the trot.

Fancied three-year-old bay colt Vice Admiral was impressive in his nine lengths victory over filly Sweetie Pie to claim his maiden win after finishing good second four times in succession.

Mare Mixed Blessing pulled off the first upset of the day beating colt Hamza Joy as favourite Muktadar had to be content with third slot.

Similarly, filly Lady Conqueror with no form worth stormed to six-and-a-half lengths victory over filly Leopard Of Arab.

Apart from Pir Pagara, owner Syed Ismail Shah also returned happy with a double (Dark Secret, Captain Black).

Among trainers, Ehtisham saddled three winners while Mushtaq and Allah Judrio came out with two apiece.
