Man booked for swindling NGO out of over Rs31m

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: The Kohsar police have registered a case against an alleged fraudster who embezzled a huge sum that he received from a German non-governmental organisation for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected people, officials said here on Friday.

Murad Jamil, a German national working for the Al-Khuroot Foundation, told the police that the NGO paid euros worth Rs31,752,000 to the accused - Malik Azhar - on different occasions through cheques to construct houses, provide other necessities of life and distribute the amount among the quake victims. However, the accused embezzled the sum.

The police said Mr Azhar had set up an office in Sector F- 6/3, through which he used to defraud people.

On the request of Mr Azhar, the foundation has started giving him financial aid to help the earthquake victims, but he embezzled the amount and did not deliver even a penny to anyone, the police added.
