RAWALPINDI, Oct 31: An additional district and sessions judge here on Wednesday handed down life sentence to a woman for killing her husband in Rawat last year.

Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem awarded life imprisonment to Rifat Shaheen for murdering her husband on the night of May 26, 2006.

She will also have to pay Rs100,000 as fine, and in case of non-payment she will have to undergo six months extra imprisonment.

Ms Shaheen mother of five children had developed differences with her husband, Naseem Asif, and axed him to death when he was sleeping in the compound of his house at Karpal village in Rawat.

A brother of the deceased lodged an application with the Rawat police, who arrested the woman. Mr Asif married Shaheen some 15 years ago. The prosecution succeeded in proving her criminal.

Meanwhile, another judge served notices on SHO Kahuta asking him to appear in the court and explain why a raid was carried out on the house of a man, who had also alleged that the raiding party took away some valuable items from the house on October 25.

Malik Gul Nawaz, a resident of Kahuta, in his petition stated that he was a property dealer and on the night of October 25 the SHO, Malik Sabir, along with 14 other policemen raided his house, broke the locks and searched his bedroom. He said all dwellers his village were witness to the incident.

He also alleged that policemen took away Rs1.4 million, four gold rings and other valuable items with them. He said the raiding party failed to show search warrants and orders of any court for breaking the locks of the house.

He accused the SHO, two ASIs Karamat Bajwa and Malik Munir, wireless operator Rashid, a civilian Sultan Kiani and 10 unidentified policemen for illegally raiding his house. He prayed to the court that a dacoity case should be registered against the accused.

The judge, Rana Masood Akhtar, directed the SHO to appear in the court on November 5 and submit his reply in response to the allegations.
